“Thank you Jon for such excellent service and professionalism on delivering my new boat ,also the valuable instruction you gave me on the journey ,I learnt a lot and look forward to further instruction.”
“Having recently purchased a classic motor launch, and needing to bring her back by sea from Falmouth to Christchurch, Jon Frary of SailPower Deliveries was recommended to me by a number of RYA Instructors I know. Not giving praise lightly, in summary, he was absolutely fantastic !
So what made Jon so unique? Not only was he good company throughout the trip, but he instilled an air of complete trust and safety, which was not misplaced.
The arrangements were easily made; beforehand, he enquired about the tank’s capacity and usage, made recommendations about safety equipment and spare parts to be carried and agreed a provisional passage plan. He arrived on time and came with his own charts, electronic backup, personal safety equipment etc. He fully checked out the systems, electronics, seals, and engine; checking the oil, coolant, fuel capacity and usage to confirm my assumptions.
Jon’s knowledge and skills of seamanship are exemplary. Initially, I asked him to take her off the berth and dock her, which he did expertly. Indeed, even as a former RYA Training Centre Principal, I had not witnessed such control before. I would have absolutely no concern in Jon delivering my beautiful boat anywhere, without me being on board.
I was impressed that he took his deck boots off each time he came into the saloon and kept everything in its place. He even washed the boat when we arrived, both in Dartmouth, en-route, and also once back in our home port. He checked the oil and coolant at each port of call (and on reaching our destination), simply stating that it was good practice as neither he nor I knew the boat.
But even greater added value, came when he showed me how to maintain the engines (even taking the time to re-tighten the belts before he left), provided clear explanations as to the various stop cocks, filters and electrical systems and even provided diagrams to assist my memory. He also tutored me in the ways of manoeuvring a twin screw vessel and coached me as we came alongside a visitors pontoon in Weymouth and our own berth in Christchurch.
An absolutely fantastic combination of skill, professionalism, consideration and service. I feel entirely comfortable trusting my classic boat to Jon Frary, but would recommend joining him on any passage if you can, simply because you learn so much more about what seamanship is really about!”
“I attended an RYA powerboat Level 2 course that Jon was the instructor for, and am grateful that I did not succumb to the lure of the Groupon that nearly made me go to another school.
Jons style made it look effortless as he adapted his training techniques to the mixed abilities and personalities of the group. He has a nice easy style that puts you at ease and has found the perfect balance between fun and serious. He is clearly extremely knowledgable at what he does, and this left me feeling more than confident that I was getting the best training that I could. He is very courteous, not only to his students but also to others that we encountered during the course of the training. Nothing is too much bother, and he will assist where he can.
He really is a Master Mariner, and I certainly wont be looking anywhere else for any future training in sailing, boating or yachting .
Hower, I won’t be endorsing him for his tea making ability…….”
